Shaving Brush (Badger Brush)
It is unfortunately the case that many men overlook the experience of a traditional wet shave due to the constraints of time and busy schedules. This really is an experience not to be missed and one that will bring joy back to the daily routine without unnecessarily draining your time in the morning.
Mens Shaving Brushes
There are several advantages to using a badger brush during shaving:
- Achieve a rich lather - essential for a comfortable shave
- Lift the beard from the face for a closer shave
- Exfoliates the skin before shaving
A wet shave - even The Art of Shaving's '4 Elements' process, should only take four minutes. This isn't a long time and certainly the least you should be spending on an important aspect of your appearance.
Shaving Brush Grades
There are three grades of badger hair shaving brush. The exact name title of each grade can differ between manufacturers so, to make this clearer, we have simply graded each brush 1, 2, or 3 and displayed the rating in the product description for quick recognition.
Grade 1: Silvertip
Silvertip badger hair originates from the neck of the badger and is the highest grade of shaving brush available. It is exceptionally soft and limited in availability. Badger brushes made using Silvertip badger hair are deemed to be the finest available and attract special status within the shaving fraternity.
Grade 2: Super, Best or Finest
This grade denotes a very high class of badger hair. Some prefer this grade as the bristles are slightly firmer than those made with the more exclusive silvertip badger hair.
Grade two shaving brushes made are still remarkably soft to touch, have excellent water retention qualities and due to their firmer disposition also work to mildly exfoliate the skin in preparation for shaving. If properly cared for a super badger brush will give you many years of service.
Grade 3: Pure
The third grade of badger hair shaving brush is considered to be the benchmark for brush manufacturers, denoting that a brush is of an above average standard.
Pure shaving brushes are firmer to the touch then grades one and two and are favoured for exfoliating the skin prior to shaving. Grade three badger brushes also vary in height and knot size, the latter denoting the diameter of the bristles as they meet the handle.
Daily Wet Shaving Routine
A badger hair shaving brush of any grade can be used practically and effectively as part of your daily shaving routine.
By soaking the brush in hot water the bristles are quickly warmed, thus enabling them to soak up plenty of water in preparation for making a rich lather and a smooth shave.
