Shaving Tips
Ensure that your hands and your razor are clean. Blades can quickly become dull or damaged so change blades frequently. Dull blades can cause razor burn and other irritations.
Wash your face with a cleanser, or exfoliate twice weekly, to remove any excess oil and dead skin. A build up of dead skin around the hair can lead an uneven shave, razor bumps and ingrown hairs.
Shaving with the grain is preferable, so know the direction in which your facial hair grows. It should be possible to view under close inspection in a mirror, or run your hands down your face to sense the smooth direction of your beard/stubble. The direction of hair growth can vary around the face so be sure to adjust the direction of your blade accordingly.
Do not shave before the going to gym or playing sport, as perspiration on freshly-shaven skin can be irritating.
Rinse your blade frequently whilst shaving to avoid clogging and to ensure a smooth shave.
Do not shave over the same area more than twice as this will lead to soreness and irritation.
Use a styptic pen or alum block to soothe minor nicks and cuts, and to stop bleeding.
Do not use after-shave products that leave a burning sensation as these will cause irritation. After-shave products are there to soothe the skin not to kill bacteria. Use balms or lotions, those with Sensitive or Dry skin might like to use an additional moisturiser.
Blades should be rinsed clean after use. Never wipe as this will dull the edge.
